About the Conference

The 1st Annual Scientific Conference of OUHK Institute of Research in Innovative Technology & Sustainability (IRITS) will be held in The Open University of Hong Kong on August 26-27, 2016. This conference provides an interactive platform for senior executives from industry, academia and technical leaders in the field of green development. The aim of this conference is to encourage the exchange and cooperation between experts and academia from Hong Kong, Mainland and overseas government, research institution, universities and industries. The scope of discussion will cover Water Quality and Resources, Environmental Management, Impact Assessment, Planning and Policy, Environmental Ethics, Environmental Education, Polar Expedition and HAB Microalgae. The banquet of the conference will be held at the end of the conference (27 August 2016), with the theme “Professor Kin-Chung Ho’s 40 years Environmental Experience Sharing”. Participants can explore new ideas and discover new technologies with experienced overseas experts throughout the Keynote Presentation, Discussion and Banquet. With the discussion on the past and current situation, and the future research trends, participants will be able to understand more on various types of research and the future development.

About the Host

The Institute for Research in Innovative Technology and Sustainability (IRITS) was established in 2015 with an aim to consolidate current research disciplines conducted by School of Science and Technology, and develop research capacity in other potential disciplines. IRITS focuses on two research disciplines for strategic development – environmental science and advanced network technologies.

Consolidation of the first discipline has led to establishment of the Centre for Research in Environmental Science, under which there are three main research themes:
(1) Wastewater treatment and algal biofuel
(2) Water quality and phytoplankton biodiversity; and
(3) Harmful algal blooms.

For the discipline of advanced network technologies, research will be focused on the following areas:
(1) Adaptive and secure cloud connectivity;
(2) Optimisation algorithms;
(3) Location-based information systems; and
(4) Tele-biotechnology related to computer network.

In 2016, IRITS will celebrate her 1st anniversary, an excellent occasion to reflect on the past, present and future challenges of innovative technology and sustainability. The conference will provide an invaluable opportunity for regional and local experts involved in related disciplines to exchange views on new research findings, knowledge and technologies.
